Hypertension

Is your blood pressure uncontrolled? Do you regularly see a health care professional about your hypertension? Don't hesitate to consult your pharmacist for anything related to your heart health. Your pharmacist can give you information about your blood pressure and target values along with non-medication measures to prevent or reduce high blood pressure. Your pharmacist will also give you useful documentation as well as a log so that you can record your blood pressure.

Your pharmacist can also take your pressure from time to time or recommend that you take it at home. You may also need to measure your blood pressure for 24 hours with ABPM (ambulatory blood pressure monitoring). Many pharmacies rent this type of device, which you wear day and night.

Has your doctor prescribed medication for your hypertension? Your pharmacist will tell you how to take it correctly and will follow up to see how well the medication is working for you and whether you are tolerating its side effects, if any. If need be, your pharmacist will also consult with your doctor to adjust your medication to improve its effectiveness or safety.
